Our Home
At Shaarei, we are blessed with a truly wonderful, engaging and inspiring sacred space. The frontage of our Shul at 35 Morseland Avenue is a ranch home, once the home of Rabbi Mordechai Savitsky of blessed memory, a great Talmid Chacham who was a dominant force in the supervision of Kosher meats in the United States during the second half of the twentieth century. He led a small shul named “Chevre Shas” in his basement. We bought and expanded Rabbi Savitsky’s home and shul when he retired to Monsey, and have continued to develop our space over the years.
Since our coming together as a kehillah twenty-two years ago, we have enjoyed congregational growth, and, at present, our current space is insufficient for our programmatic needs. We have therefore resolved to expand our Shul and have begun the process of planning our new building, which we hope at once will meet our programmatic needs and be respectful of our residential neighborhood in which we all live and greatly appreciate.
The process of building and expansion will be a complex task, involving design, municipal politics, and, of course, fundraising. We will need much help and input from our congregational membership. We plan to bring to our community, regular updates by e-mail, regular mail, and shul announcements. In addition, our Project Manager Judy Cannon will be posting regular planning updates on the Shaarei website..
If you want to reach any of us, please send your communication to our Building Committee comprised of Avi Rockoff (Chair), Gary Elovitz, Tony Goschalk, Mel Hoffman, Roni Pick, and Steve Schwartz.
In addition, you can contact our Shul President, Ron Loberfeld.
